Checklist #0 – Institutional Mission and Objective

The mission of Nixon College is to prepare students with the knowledge and skills that will enable them to qualify for entry-level jobs in the trucking industry. Emphasis is placed on safety, a thorough understanding of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Rules and Regulations, on the operation of heavy-duty tractor/trailer equipment, and the defensive driving techniques necessary to develop the skill levels required for passing the commercial Driver’s License examination.

Checklist #2 – Catalog Update Policy

The policy of this institution is to update the official school catalog annually, in January of each year. Annual updates may be made by the use of supplements or inserts accompanying the catalog. If changes in educational programs, educational services, procedures, or policies required to be included in the catalog by statute or regulation are implemented before the issuance of the annually updated catalog, those changes shall be reflected at the time they are made in supplements or inserts accompanying the catalog.

Checklist #7 – BPPE Approval

This institution is a private institution approved to operate by the California Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE). Approval to operate means the institution is compliant with minimum standards contained in the California Private Postsecondary Education Act of 2009 (as amended) and Division 7.5 of title 5 of the California code of Regulations.

Checklist #11 – Facilities & Equipment

Nixon College’s main campus is located at 2680 Pomona BLVD STE A, Pomona, CA 91768. The facility and the equipment utilized fully comply with federal, state, and local ordinances and regulations regarding fire, safety, building, and health.

The 1,000-square-foot facility is well lit and ventilated. On campus there is one restroom and on-site parking. The school maintains a training yard of approximately 52,000 square feet for hands-on practice with late-model conventional tractors, trailers. School equipment is maintained at the highest level. Prospective students are encouraged to arrange a tour of the facilities to see the instructional environment and equipment in person.

Checklist #12 – Library & Learning Resources

No dedicated library is required to meet the instructional needs of students in this program. Since hands-on skill development is critical, traditional research materials are of limited benefit. However, Nixon College does maintain a small resource area with industry magazines, reading materials, and a telephone for job applications or research. The college also provides students with the official California DMV manuals (Class A) at no charge.

Acceptance of the diploma or certificate you earn is also at the complete discretion of the institution to which you may seek to transfer. If the diploma or certificate you earn at this institution is not accepted, you may be required to repeat some or all of your coursework at that institution.

Admissions Policies & Recognition of Credits
- Student must have a high school diploma or GED. Applicants without a high school diploma, Certificate of Proficiency, or G.E.D. may be administered a nationally recognized standardized test (e.g., Wonderlic Basic Skills).
- This institution does not award credit for CLEP or experiential learning.
- No articulation or transfer agreements currently exist between Nixon College and other institutions.
- All applicants must present a valid driver’s license and Social Security card (if applicable).
- All applicants must pass a DOT physical examination, obtain a DMV printout, and pass a NIDA 5-Panel drug screen test.
- Minimum age for Class A licensure is 18 for intrastate driving; 21 for interstate.
- An Enrollment Agreement is processed after the student is determined qualified.

Admission Procedures
Prospective students will have an in-person or virtual interview to review program details, admissions requirements, and school policies. A campus tour may be arranged upon request. Applicants with a history of certain driving or legal issues (e.g., multiple DUIs, felony convictions) may face obstacles with certain employers. Qualified applicants can sign an Enrollment Agreement once these conditions are disclosed and evaluated.

Checklist #18 – Visa Related Services & Language Proficiency

This institution does not admit students from other countries; no visa services are offered. All instruction is in English only. Applicants whose high school education was not in English may be required to demonstrate proficiency through a recognized test (e.g., TOEFL) as noted in the admissions policies. Nixon College does not provide ESL instruction.

Checklist #21 – Accreditation Status

Nixon College is not accredited by an agency recognized by the United States Department of Education. Our programs do not lead to licensure in any other state outside of California. Credits earned at Nixon College may not be recognized by some employers or other institutions, including government positions within the State of California. Students at unaccredited institutions are not eligible for federal financial aid.

Checklist #23 – Student Tuition Recovery Fund (STRF) Disclosure

The State of California established the Student Tuition Recovery Fund (STRF) to relieve or mitigate economic loss suffered by a student in an educational program at a qualifying institution. You must pay the state-imposed assessment for the STRF if you are a California resident enrolled in a residency program and prepay all or part of your tuition.

Keep all records (enrollment agreements, financial documents, receipts). Questions regarding the STRF may be directed to the Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education, 1747 North Market Blvd., Suite 225, Sacramento, CA 95834, (916) 574-8900 or (888) 370-7589.

Privacy Act
Nixon College respects the rules under the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). We do not release a student’s records without the student’s written consent unless required by law.

Student Conduct
Students must behave professionally and respectfully at all times. Any act of academic dishonesty, substance abuse on campus, possession of weapons, or conduct that endangers others may lead to dismissal. The Chief Executive Officer will determine disciplinary actions within ten days of any reported incident.

Nondiscrimination Policy
Nixon College does not discriminate based on race, color, religion, national origin, sex, marital status, pregnancy, age, disability, veteran’s status, sexual orientation, or any other classification protected by law.

Academic Freedom
Nixon College supports full academic freedom. Instructors choose their course content organization and methods, aligning with approved course descriptions.

Sexual Harassment
This institution is committed to providing a harassment-free environment. Any verbal or physical misconduct of a sexual nature is strictly prohibited.

About the DMV Exam
A Department of Transportation (DOT) physical exam is required for all prospective commercial drivers. You must maintain a valid DOT medical card, typically valid for 24 months. Conditions like high blood pressure or diabetes may affect certification. Students must pass a drug test and meet basic physical requirements (e.g., 20/40 correctable vision).

Checklist #24 – Cancellation, Withdrawal & Refund Policies

Student’s Right to Cancel
You may cancel your enrollment agreement and obtain a full refund of charges paid through attendance at the first class session or the seventh day after enrollment, whichever is later (less a reasonable deposit, not to exceed $250).

A notice of cancellation must be in writing, either submitted to the administrative office or evidenced by lack of attendance. Refunds are prorated if you have completed 60% or less of the course. Refunds are issued within 45 days of cancellation or withdrawal.

Refund Policy
A pro-rata refund is calculated based on the daily charge for the program multiplied by the number of days attended. No refunds are due once more than 60% of instructional hours have been provided.

If you have received federal student financial aid, you are entitled to a refund of moneys not paid from those funds.

Checklist #26 – Financial Aid Policies

Nixon College does not participate in federal financial aid programs or provide direct financial aid. Students at unaccredited institutions are not eligible for federal aid. We do accept self-pay and funding from certain federal agencies (e.g., WIA/Workforce Investment Act) if the student qualifies under those agencies’ guidelines.

Checklist #27 – Loan Repayment

If a student obtains a loan to pay for an educational program, the student is responsible for repaying the full amount of the loan plus interest (less any applicable refunds). If federal student financial aid funds are received, the student is entitled to a refund of moneys not paid from those federal funds.

Checklist #28 – Financial Aid Disclosures

If you obtain a loan to pay for an educational program, you must repay the full amount of the loan plus interest (less any refund). Students who receive federal aid funds are entitled to a refund of any money not paid from federal programs.

Checklist #29 – Student Achievement / Grading

Nixon College uses a pass/fail grading system. Instructors monitor each student’s progress through quizzes and skill demonstrations. A “pass” on all required evaluations is necessary to complete the course. Students who do not meet objectives may be assigned tutorial training or extended practice.

Incomplete (I): If a course is not finished by the end date, an instructor may grant an extension of up to two months at no extra cost, provided the student is making satisfactory progress.

Withdrawal (W): If progress is insufficient, an instructor may withdraw a student. Withdrawn students must re-register and pay new tuition to retake the course.

Checklist #30 – Attendance Policies

Students must attend at least 85% of scheduled sessions. Falling below 90% triggers a warning; below 85% results in probation for the remainder of the program. Late arrivals and early departures are tracked. Students on probation must meet with the School Director to discuss corrective actions.

Checklist #31 – Probation & Dismissal Policies

The Chief Academic Officer (CAO) may place a student on probation if they are not meeting academic progress standards. Grade points are monitored at the end of each term. Students have two additional terms to improve their grades. Failure to do so may result in dismissal. Tutoring resources may be offered at the student’s own cost.

Checklist #32 – Leaves of Absence

Students who need a leave of absence must submit a written request to the main office. Leaves are granted at the CAO’s discretion and must be reasonable given the student’s situation. Repeated or extended leaves that disrupt program completion may result in dismissal and possible refunds in accordance with policy.

Checklist #33 – Grievances & Student Rights

Most student concerns can be addressed with an instructor or customer service representative. If unresolved, the student may submit a written complaint to the main campus. Written complaints should describe the problem, dates, individuals involved, and any relevant documentation. A response will be provided within ten business days.

Student rights are also noted throughout this catalog. If further information is needed, contact the School Director.

Checklist #34 – Student Services

Nixon College does not provide orientation sessions, airport reception, or formal personal counseling. We focus on delivering educational services. However, we can refer students to local resources for additional professional help if personal issues interfere with academic success.

Checklist #35 – Placement Services

Nixon College offers limited placement assistance for graduates who request it, including help with interview preparation, job applications, and direct employer referrals. Although we strive to provide quality leads, no guarantee of employment can be made.

Checklist #36 – Housing Information

This institution does not operate dormitories or provide housing placement. The responsibility for finding housing rests with each student. Rental options in the Pomona area range from apartments to single-family homes. Monthly rents for a one-bedroom unit may average around $1,200-$1,500, depending on market conditions.

Checklist #37 – Student Records / Transcripts

Nixon College maintains student records for five years; transcripts are kept permanently. Students may request to inspect records by writing to the campus. If inaccuracies are found, the student may petition for corrections. The first official transcript is provided at no charge. Additional copies require a fee of $25 for two copies. No transcript is released until all financial obligations are paid.

Not Applicable. Nixon College’s programs require in-person attendance and hands-on instruction for successful completion.

Checklist #20 – Eligibility for Licensure (Class A Driver)

All of our programs lead to occupations that require licensure as a Class A driver in California. Eligibility generally requires:
- Minimum age of 18 for intrastate driving (21 for interstate)
- Passing a drug test
- Obtaining a Class A permit from the DMV
- Passing a DOT physical exam

Checklist #22 – Schedule of Charges

All fees are subject to change without notice. Below are the charges for each program (including tuition, materials, registration, physical exam, drug testing, fees to other entities, and STRF):

Checklist #25 – Faculty & Qualifications

Nixon College instructors must have at least three years of over-the-road experience and meet health, licensing, and driving record requirements. Each instructor holds a valid commercial driver’s license (Class A), a current medical card, and a clean driving record (typically no more than one point).

- David Garzon: CDL Class A, 2+ years OTR, forklift certified, 3+ years as a CDL instructor

Name of Program: Class A Course (Tractor-Trailer)

Program Description:
This driver training program prepares students for DMV written and driving exams. Students learn to operate Class A tractor-trailers through both theory and hands-on practice.

Graduation Requirements:
Complete all assignments, demonstrate competence in inspections and behind-the-wheel skills, pass practice tests, and maintain at least 85% attendance.

Occupational Mission & Objective:
Work as a licensed Class A commercial driver.

Total Program Hours: 120 hours over approx. 12 weeks
